Fragile Beauty – The Restoration of a Ball Gown of Empress Eugénie

The ball gown attributed to the last Empress of France, Eugénie de Montijo (1826 – 1920) came to the Textile Museum St. Gallen in 1954 with the purchase of a private collection. The dress, made of precious Alençons lace, was completely restored and reassembled in 2020. It will then be on display in the exhibition Robes politiques – Women Power Fashion from March 2021 to the beginning of February 2022.
